3 Corners of Successful Writing

Things to consider when communicating with your people.

1. YOUR READER

Ask yourself…

  • Who is your audience?

  • What is their mindset?

  • What do they want?

  • How can you help them?

2. YOUR CONTENT

Messages can be broken down into three categories – knowing what you’re trying to achieve will help focus your message:

1. Providing direction

2. Giving information

3. Or a combination of both

Don’t try to do too much with one message, otherwise it will become confused and lose impact.

3. YOUR PURPOSE

Most important of all – what do you want your reader to think, feel or do differently? This is your objective, and will be what drives your call to action.

A call to action doesn’t have to be an obvious next step – like ‘visit my website’. But it should answer the purpose of your communication. So if an Instagram caption is designed to boost engagement, your call to action could simply be a question for followers.

If your objective is to lead readers to another resource or webpage, you should try to embed the call to action within the copy.
